Modernism in Persian Poetry
Author: Maryam Mosharraf
Publisher: Morvarid Publications
The modernist movement in the literature of Europe and North America during the first half of the twentieth century left a profound impact, and several works from these regions gradually influenced a wide range of poets and writers in South America, the Far East, and the Middle East as well. Emphasis on new uses of language, form, and literary structure to capture the fluid and complex aspects of life is considered one of the major achievements of literary modernism.
In this book, Dr. Maryam Mosharraf—poet, researcher, and professor of Persian literature at Shahid Beheshti University—presents a selection of her lectures and notes on the poetry of Nima Yushij and several of his close and distant students and followers (Ahmad Shamlou, Amir-Hossein Ebtehaj, Mehdi Akhavan-Sales, Sohrab Sepehri, Forough Farrokhzad, and Shafiei Kadkani), examining their works from the perspective of literary modernism and making them available to enthusiasts of contemporary Iranian literature.
