The Tumult of Tabriz
Edited by: Sadegh Hojjati
Publisher: Miras-e Maktub Publications
The book “The Tumult of Tabriz” is a critically edited version of a manuscript containing the notes of a Tabrizi citizen, covering the events of the constitutionalist movement in Tabriz from the death of Naser al-Din Shah to World War I. The author is a tradesman from Tabriz, residing in the Chaharmenar neighborhood, who sympathizes with the ideals of the constitutionalists but occasionally criticizes both their actions and those of Mohammad Ali Shah.
Although he holds no official position within either the constitutionalist or the royalist camps, he recounts news concerning the decisions and actions of both sides as observed among the people. The book presents novel insights into the public’s attitude toward constitutionalists and their opponents, the ways in which ordinary citizens secured their daily livelihoods, neighborhood interactions, the public reception of news about both sides, their impact on everyday life, and the concerns and challenges faced by the populace.
