World Cup in Javadiyeh
Author: Davood Amirian
Publisher: Ghadiani Publications
World Cup in Javadiyeh is an engaging book that tells the story of several teenagers in the Javadiyeh neighborhood who experience a series of exciting events. The story is about two teenagers from Tehran’s Javadiyeh district who are looking for a place to play football during the summer. By chance, they meet the son of the Canadian ambassador to Iran. One of the boys, Siavash, who knows some English, begins teaching Persian to “Alex.” When Alex learns that Siavash plans to organize a neighborhood football tournament, he suggests that the children of the Canadian embassy staff also participate in the competition as a team. After Siavash agrees, a team from the children of the Brazilian embassy staff also registers.
Meanwhile, young Afghan workers living in the neighborhood form their own team and join the matches. In this way, a miniature World Cup for teenagers is held in the Javadiyeh neighborhood. Amirian has published 26 stories so far and has received numerous awards. He was born in 1970 in Kerman and began his writing career in 1990 by recording his memories from the war front. We recommend this book to all teenagers who enjoy reading stories.
An excerpt from World Cup in Javadiyeh:
“Siavash arrived at the Canadian embassy. His heart was pounding. He took a few deep breaths and straightened his hair with his hand. He checked his clothes to see if they were neat. Then he switched his bag to the other hand. His palms were sweating. He tried to look calm. Taking measured steps, he walked toward the embassy gate.
‘Where are you going, young man?’
Siavash turned toward the voice. A soldier inside a small metal booth next to the embassy’s main gate was looking at him. Siavash walked confidently toward the soldier. The soldier, who had taken refuge in the booth from the intense heat and bright sunlight of early summer, stepped out.
Siavash reached him.
‘Hello. I have an appointment with the Canadian ambassador’s son!’
The soldier frowned in surprise. ‘With the ambassador’s son?’
‘Yes.’
‘Are you sure you’re feeling okay?’
‘Thanks for your concern!’
‘Don’t get smart with me.’
Siavash became upset.
‘I’m supposed to become the ambassador’s son’s private tutor. I also have an appointment with him at this exact time…’”
